Syanis (see-AH-niece) Yarí Vargas-González, preferred pronouns she/her/ella, works as an administrative assistant at the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications. Before working at Syracuse University, Syanis worked as a Starbucks barista for over five years, her last year working as a supervisor. She also held various leadership positions while studying for her undergraduate degrees, including public relations manager for an a cappella group, assistant stage manager for various theater productions at the University of Rochester, and external affairs officer, social media chair and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion officer for the Theta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Syanis graduated from the University of Rochester in May 2022 with a dual bachelor’s degree in digital media studies and English (theater). She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in television, radio and film at the Newhouse School. She is proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, Logic Pro X and Pro Tools. In her free time, she works as a freelance graphic designer, music producer, actor, singer-songwriter, and content creator.
