When the young music duo “Let it Rain” starts to find success, a documentary crew begins to follow them on their rise to fame. As this meta commentary slowly crumbles, it explores how the spotlight favors the male performer, unraveling the systemic bias of the industry and the overlooked struggles of his female partner, forcing viewers to confront their own blind spots.
The film begins focused on the male lead while having the female character in the background (as we see too often in our media). Raine slowly moves from the background to the front of this story as we realize the struggles she has been going through this whole time while we, the viewer, were oblivious. It becomes clear: this is her story.
CHARACTERS:
Raine
♪19, Hardworking, incredibly gifted singer. Raine holds strong opinions but is
sometimes scared to express them. She begins her story full of hope for what the future holds, but as she begins to discover the truth of this world, her vision of the “American Dream” is shattered.
Hagan
♪ 20, Naturally talented at guitar and singing, charming, smart yet naive. His love for Raine is always the top priority… until opportunity begins to pull him away.
THE MUSIC:
Obviously, this film needs to, in a way, be a musical. Much of this story comes from KM and her thoughts/experiences with the American Dream. Because of this, the film will feature a soundtrack of exclusively her original music to help bring this story to life.
