An institute created to serve as a place of both refuge and scholarship, where folks who spent most of their lives participating in society from the margins can develop a community where their voices are heard and understood.
About the Institute
A newly established center at the City University, the ESG Institute, embodies a vision of equity, inclusion, and diverse thoughts, through a platform that amplifies the voices of marginalized individuals. The institution’s mission is to create a space – physical and virtual – for those in marginalized communities, such as people of color, those with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. In this space, individuals can bring their unique experiences into the center of conversations. This institute is grounded in the fact that the perspectives and opinions of those in the margins are not only welcomed, but crucial to conversation.
Projects
As we grow the institute, we look forward to sharing projects created by scholars, professors, and students part of marginalized groups. Projects will include workshops, art exhibits, public forums – all highlighting lived experiences, cultivated for other marginalized individuals.
For now, we invite you to take a look to the left at the institute’s logo – our first illustration of the exciting journey of this institute. The logo is designed to symbolize the empowerment of stories and experiences we don’t always hear about. At the heart of the ESG Institute, there is a strong belief that change begins with amplifying the voices of those who in marginalized groups. The logo encapsulates the institute’s purpose of not only listening to, but promoting the thoughts, opinions, and conversations of a diverse range of individuals. Through the logo, and the future projects released, we continue to move with the institute’s vision of changing storylines, one voice at a time.
