When I think of the American Dream, I imagine a really big house in the South.

My parents’ American Dream was the opportunity to get a job and have money and just have a better life than their family back home in Mexico. My parents were the only Hispanic family in our town, so they faced a lot of discrimination, especially because they were learning the language. When my brother started kindergarten, my mom took his homework to her English teacher and learned with him.

My parents always said their American Dream is for me to go to college. My American Dream is to do well in school, to get a good job, and to make my parents proud.
