The American Dream is the idea that I get what I want if I put in the efforts. It’s a lot more difficult in India now than it was for my parents to sustain a family. Even if I had the average salary, it would take 100 years to afford a house in India. My American Dream was to get away from that.
After coming to the United States I realize how much more difficult it is to get a visa, keep good grades, and get the best jobs. Because I don’t want to get kicked out of the country next year. I’m not a citizen. The U.S. doesn’t promise me the same things. Some politician could just decide… “We don’t need any of you anymore. You need to go back.”
The United States is the kind of country where I can achieve the dreams, but that depends on the election. That possibility, that reality, is not a very good one.
