My American Dream is the freedom for Black women to live the lives that they want and deserve because they tend to be the most oppressed in this country. Socially. Politically. Economically.
When I was a little girl, my dad told me that I have to be twice as good as everybody else because I was born with two strikes against me: being Black and being a woman.
My American Dream is attaining the fundamental rights that my ancestors have been denied for hundreds of years. And I’m excited for the future.
Our baby boomer parents messed it up. My generation is trying but some are still complacent. But I feel really confident in the approach of the next generation.
