For as long as I remember I have found solace in performing.
Whether it be at performing arts, camps, local concerts, or theater, being on stage has always brought me joy along with bringing me this joy. It has also created many struggles, as I was born with a physical disability. This made certain things more difficult for me, and made any professional performance seem unattainable.
While my love for theater continued to grow, I felt lonely, as no one around me shared the same struggle I did. I continue to perform as much as I can in college, and I know it is still a safe space for me, but I still haven’t seen or connected with anyone else who looks like me.
And that hurts…
