About the Album
L makes his music industry debut with his first album, “Father of the Year.” L told a reporter from Silverstein Magazine that the album name comes from his number one goal in life. “Everyday when I wake up,” he says, “I want to be the father of the year. Then husband of the year, then teacher of the year. Happiness is my work.”
The high school teacher-turned-musician tells us that this album unpacks his life story as it pertains to the American Dream. “My mom was a very stereotypical East Asian mom. Status and education were very important to her, and she told me at 10 years old that I was going to be a doctor or a lawyer and that I had to choose.” Side A of the album resembles this perspective. The glitz and glam that is sold as the American Dream. But as he grew older and wiser, L discovered what the American Dream meant to him.
For me, it’s the ability to pursue.. The pursuit of happiness… For me the American dream is the ability to fulfill yourself in whatever way you want and whatever will make you become a self actualized person, whatever that means for you personally.
“For me, it’s the ability to pursue.. The pursuit of happiness… For me the American dream is the ability to fulfill yourself in whatever way you want and whatever will make you become a self actualized person, whatever that means for you personally.” Side B of the album embraces the ups and downs in his life that ultimately lead to his happiness today, and the way education transformed him.
L dedicates this album to his family and students who inspire him everyday to be a better man. The album’s release date is December 18, 2022 on all streaming services.
